Infusions of Hibiscus Sabdariffa are traditionally used in the treatment of patients with hypertension. A study undertaken at Tufts University in Massachusetts (J. Nutr. February 2010 vol. 140 no. 2 298-303) confirmed that drinking three cups of hibiscus tea per day led to a reduction in the blood pressure of the participants.

The mechanism behind this effect is not fully understood although it is thought that the anti-oxidants in the hibiscus reduce the rate oxidisation of LDL cholesterol particles. Oxidisation of LDL cholesterol particles contributes to the build up of deposits on the walls of the blood vessels which restricts blood flow and increases blood pressure.

The feedback we get from our customers is that drinking hibiscus is effective for many of them in helping reduce their blood pressure. If you are using Simply Hibi for this reason please let us have you feedback to enable us to build up a better picture of those that benefit from the effects.
